Year 2020 has been a bad year for the publishing industry. Retail buying has gone down to near zero. For six months, from March to September, online sales of books too could be counted on the fingertips. It is books that have been on the anvil since 2018 that have been really forged and have been made available in the public domain by major publishers in India after August.

Arun Srivastava - 2020-12-24 10:37
Narendra Modi’s visit and his epilogue at the Aligarh Muslim University would be remembered for its asymmetry. While it reminds of the famous maxim kahin pe nigahe, kahin pe nishana (targeting someone and shooting somebody else) it also attempts at his image makeover in the wake of farmers’ agitation.

NARENDRA MODI GOVERNMENT’S FOOD ECONOMY POLICY IS FLAWED

HUGE STOCKS LYING WITH FCI CAN BE GIVEN FREE TO POOR AND HUNGRY
Prabhat Patnaik - 2020-12-24 10:34
The Indian intelligentsia has an incredible propensity to swallow the self-serving arguments of metropolitan capitalism that are typically supposed to constitute ‘economic wisdom’; and nowhere is this more evident than in the case of India’s food economy. There are a plethora of centre-page articles in newspapers these days suggesting that Indian kisans should move away from producing foodgrains towards other crops, which is actually a demand that metropolitan countries have been making for quite some time. They want us to import foodgrains from them, of which they have a surplus, to meet the excess of our domestic demand over domestic production. This would take us back to the pre-Green Revolution days; and now members of the Indian intelligentsia are echoing in various ways this metropolitan demand to diversify away from foodgrains.

MUSLIM VOTERS BEHAVIOUR IS THE DETERMINING FACTOR IN BENGAL ASSEMBLY POLLS

AMIT SHAH MAY STRATEGISE TO DIVIDE IN BJP’S FAVOUR BUT DOUBTS REMAIN
Sushil Kutty - 2020-12-23 11:15
Nearly 30 per cent of West Bengal is Muslims. And Muslims are the deciding factor in all elections. The Congress benefited with Muslims votes. The Left profited with Muslim votes. Trinamool worsted the Left with Muslim votes. Now what? There’s no other ‘secular’ party left to migrate to. The only option is the Bharatiya Janata Party and Muslims are the last people to spread the ‘Chaddar’ for Amit Shah and his defector pal from the Trinamool Congress Suvendu Adhikari.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from securing a seat on the important Energy and Commerce Committee.
