CONGRESS LEADERSHIP HAS TO BE INVOLVED MORE IN ANTI-CAA MOVEMENT

RAHUL GANDHI MUST CONNECT NOW WITH REVOLTING YOUTH
Arun Srivastava - 2020-01-08 10:54
For strategic reasons Rahul Gandhi may not have been actively participating in the anti CAA and NRC agitation, but his action would not do well to the Congress. One of the reasons may be he does not desire to get trapped in Mod-Shah accusation that the movement against CAA and NRC is Congress engineered protest instead of being a spontaneous mass upsurge against the Modi government. Second reason may be he intends to force the state Congress satraps to follow his tactical line.

‘REMARKABLE FEAT’ LABEL BURIES SERIOUS CONCERNS IN THE FOREST

INDIA FAR BEHIND THE TARGET, NEEDS MUCH MORE TO DO
Gyan Pathak - 2020-01-08 10:51
A serious concern is buried by the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar under his label of a ‘remarkable feat’ of increase in forest and tree cover in India by more than 130 million hectares in the last four years. His comment came after he released the biennial ‘India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2019’ prepared by the Forest Survey of India (FSI). He was found patting his back for so little an achievement risking complacency among the forest officials who actually need very hard work to restore the heavily depleted forest cover of the country. Thanks to the efforts of the people that increased the tree cover in the country, while the dense forest area remains only a little over three percent of the total geographical area of the country.

PEOPLE ON THE STREETS ARE FIGHTING FOR CONSTITUTION
Amritananda Chakravorty - 2020-01-08 10:34
It is often said that lawyers’ language and doctors’ handwriting are hard to understand. The legalese of lawyers accompanied with legal jargon often sounds alien and too technical for common people, and for long, the Constitution of India remained the instrument mostly for lawyers, and judges to argue about, interpret and to uphold. Besides the time of emergency (1975-1977), when the country in unison had risen in revolt against the suspension of fundamental rights, and in effect, the Constitution, people in India after independence largely had taken the constitutional values for granted, and not deeply engaged with the same.
