Alarm over the prospect of a second Trump presidency and desire for substantial change is preparing the ground for an unprecedented voter turnout in November. The virtual Democratic National Convention showcased the vast array of support coalescing around former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif. That support ranges from former Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich to socialists Sen. Bernie Sanders, a spectrum so broad it makes that required turnout a real possibility.

This in itself is a huge task which involves production, distribution and then inoculation in such large numbers. It is not yet certain up to what duration the vaccine will provide immunity to the individual.

The Independence Day address delivered by the Prime Minister was typical of the Modi style. It was long, rhetorical, and at times dramatic. An 86 minutes long speech can naturally accommodate various sorts of flavour as desired by the speaker. Tall claims were aplenty, along with the colourful narration of achievements. The Prime Minister was visibly conscious about the huge size of the audience, likely to listen to his speech. The tone of the speech was set in a way that was meant to cover up the gigantic failures of a government that has been proven a non performing one. The BJP's promise in the beginning was maximum governance, with minimum government. In course of last six years what the country could witness was just opposite, minimum governance and maximum government!

The prime minister’s speech on Independence Day was watched with anticipation to see if he would announce any new initiatives to deal with the health crisis caused by the pandemic and the related economic crisis which has resulted in large-scale loss of jobs and livelihoods.

Finally, the one month political crisis of Rajasthan, amid the ongoing Corona crisis, came to an end with rebel Sachin Pilot ending his battle against his own party and settling for peace with his detractor chief minister Ashok Gehlot as of now. Due to the revolt, Pilot was even removed from the posts of both deputy president of the party and deputy chief minister. Now, it remains to be seen whether he will be given the same posts again.
