MODI-SHAH ABROGATING ARTICLE 370 IS IN LINE WITH HISTORY

DEVELOPMENT IN VALLEY SHOULD BE WELCOMED BY ALL INDIANS
Harihar Swarup - 2019-08-10 10:23
Times were different when Kashmir was given special status and Article 370 was enacted. Over 70 years have passed since then and the ground realities have vastly changed. When the state of Jammu and Kashmir is considered an integral part of India, why it should be treated differently from other states of the Union. Why people from other parts of India cannot purchase land or built houses in Kashmir? Why they can’t set up industry in J&K, which will generate employment? If industries come in Kashmir and investment made, employment will be generated and youth will get employment instead of taking to gun.

ARTICLE 370 DID NOT HINDER DEVELOPMENT IN JAMMU & KASHMIR

PRIME MINISTER SPOKE UNTRUTHS IN HIS ADDRESS TO NATION
Nitya Chakraborty - 2019-08-09 11:22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Thursday night about the thinking of his Government on the future of J&K following the scrapping of Article 370 and 35A to bring the erstwhile border state and now union territory fully under the purview of the Indian Constitution and the Indian laws. The thrust of the address was that in the new era in J&K after his government’s historic decision on August 5, the development will flow at breakneck speed which was not possible in the last seventy years due to the prevalence of Article 370 and Article 35A.

IMF HAS TO REINVENT ITSELF TO MEET NEW CHALLENGES

EXTENSIVE REFORMS NEEDED TO MAKE THE INSTITUTION RELEVANT
K R Sudhaman - 2019-08-09 11:01
International Monetary Fund, one of the two Bretton Woods Institutions to meet economic challenges in the aftermath of Global recessions of 1930’s and the Second World War is certainly at cross roads. It is now neither fully equipped nor has the financial muscle to deal effectively and fully any future global crisis. But at the same time one cannot ignore or do away with IMF as the World needs a lender of last resort to handle financial crisis of the 21st century as the multi-lateral institution did with a great amount of success in the 20th century.

EMERGING AFGHAN SITUATION PLAYED A ROLE IN DECISION ON J&K

INDIA NOW MORE PREPARED TO DEAL WITH EXTREMISTS
Sagarneel Sinha - 2019-08-08 10:04
The move of the BJP led NDA government to scrap the special status of Jammu & Kashmir by modifying Article 370, according to me, is a historic decision. The reason is — it integrates Jammu & Kashmir for the first time with the State of India completely. Earlier, the state, which will be now divided into two Union territories — Jammu & Kashmir with a legislature and Ladakh without a legislature, had its own flag and its own constitution — meaning that there was no direct application of laws passed by the Indian parliament until and unless approved by the Legislature of Jammu & Kashmir. Although, Jammu & Kashmir’s constitution clearly mentioned that it was an integral part of India — but the truth is Article 370 did come in the way.

SCRAPPING OF ARTICLE 370 IS THE BIGGEST ATTACK ON CONSTITUTION

BIFURCATION OF J&K STATE HAS NO LEGAL SANCTITY
Amritananda Chakravorty - 2019-08-08 10:00
On 5th August, 2019, the Government of India introduced a slew of measures, unilaterally and undemocratically, which, in effect, revoked the ‘special status’ granted to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, by virtue of Article 370 of the Constitution. In fact, Article 370 has been a much abused provision of the Constitution, especially by the current government aficionados and supporters. Before we understand the import of what changes have been streamrolled, it is important to understand the historical background of Article 370.
