A MAJOR SHIFT IN MSME POLICY IS ON THE CARDS

ECONOMIC SURVEY HINTS AT REORIENTING JOB STRATEGY
Nitya Chakraborty - 2019-07-04 11:11
The Economic Survey 2018-19 presented to Parliament on Thursday has called for a drastic restructuring of the strategy in the MSME sector for higher generation of jobs in the coming year’s underlining that the smaller firms in the sector have to grow fast through induction of technology and latest expertise. The Survey is not convinced about giving special incentives to the labour intensive sectors since what matters most is whether or not investment enhances productivity.

OPPOSITION PARTIES MAKING EFFORTS TO OPPOSE IMRAN KHAN

PAK MILITARY SOLIDLY BACKS PRESENT REGIME
Sankar Ray - 2019-07-04 11:04
Miltablishment has become somewhat hyperactive in Pakistan. The Opposition smells a rat. A meeting of major political parties, opposed to the ruling coalition government, led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf, in the Pakistani capital on 26 June assumed political significance. Convened by the Jamiat Ulma-e Islam, an Islamist political party albeit distanced from the Pakistani Taliban and other terrorists, the participants represented liberal, conservative, ethno-nationalist trends as also JUI. “This meeting has emphasized parliamentary, constitutional, and civilian rule in the country. We will oppose every move aimed at weakening the parliamentary democracy in our country”, said JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman while briefing newspersons.

INDIA ECONOMIC SURVEY 2018-19

THE CLAIM OF VIRTUOUS CYCLE IN THE ECONOMY IS FALSE

NEEDED MORE REALISTIC APPROACH, NOT MERELY ATTRACTIVE PHRASES
Gyan Pathak - 2019-07-04 09:58
The Economic Survey 2018-19 is euphemistic in tone. A little despair on account of much troubled economy has been taken away instilling a little hope through attractive phrases and portraying an ailing economy as potentially a great economy of the future. Survey departs from traditional Anglo-Saxon thinking by viewing the economy as being either in a virtuous or a vicious cycle, and thus never in equilibrium, and then goes on claiming that the ‘virtuous cycle’ has begun indirectly saying that ‘vicious cycle’ has ended for good. However, the heart of the matter is that the present Indian economy is under great duress, under ‘viscious cycle’ both in domestic and external sectors.

FISCAL SITUATION AND SLOWING GROWTH A BIG WORRY

IT WILL BE A TIGHTROPE WALK FOR FINANCE MINISTER
K R Sudhaman - 2019-07-02 17:47
Difficult fiscal situation gave little head room to the new Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to provide much needed stimulus in her maiden budget July 5 to pump prime the slowing economy. Sitharaman like most finance ministers is in an unenvious position as she will have to resort to a tight rope walk to kick start the economy at a time domestic demand is low, macro-economic fundamentals not so strong, global economy slowing, exports slowing down besides widespread farm distress and difficult monsoon year.

MODI PERSUADES TRUMP TO BE SOFTER ON TRADE ISSUES

G-20 SUMMIT TALKS SET STAGE FOR A COMPROMISE
Subrata Majumder - 2019-07-02 17:44
After an year long embroilment in trade tiff, embracing tariff war and export subsidies, Modi-Trump summit, on the sideline of G-20 summit in Kobe, became a game changer. It set up a tone for readjustment rather than retaliation. Till now, USA was a staunch accuser of India’s high tariff, saying it Tariff King and alleged India’s export subsidies as WTO non-compliant. Trump’s bully abrogated GSP (Generalized Preference Scheme) benefits, alleging India as one of the causes for USA trade deficit. India enjoys trade surplus with USA.
