CONTROVERSY OVER SAM PITRODA’S INHERITANCE TAX TALK TO HIT THE CONGRESS HAS LITTLE BASIS

THE PARTY’S POLL MANIFESTO DOES NOT MENTION THIS, THOUGH POINTS TO CHALLENGE OF INEQUALITY
Anjan Roy - 2024-04-27 11:43
The controversy over re-introduction of the inheritance tax, mooted by none other than yesteryears technology buff, Sam Pitroda, has landed the opposition Congress in a big dilemma in the current course of campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. However the furore created by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his latest election speeches is misplaced, because this is not a part of the election manifesto of the Congress and Sam Pitroda is not a senior leader of the Congress party.

AMBITIOUS PLANNING IS BEING MADE TO MAKE USE OF BEST TECHNOLOGY
Girish Linganna - 2024-04-27 11:40
India’s space programme has been in the spotlight ever since the Chandrayaan-3 mission landed on the Moon’s southern hemisphere on August 23, 2023. The mission—costing a meager $75 million—covered everything, from the rocket launch to the propulsion system and the lunar lander and rover expenses. This cost-effective approach is driving other developing countries eager to establish their own sustainable space programmes.

PM HAS IMPLEMENTED POLICIES TAKING THE POLITICAL NEED FOR THE PARTY TO DOUBLE ITS TALLY
Harihar Swarup - 2024-04-27 11:37
The central leadership of BJP including the party’s think tanks spent a lot of days in imparting some new dimensions to the election manifesto for 2024 Lok Sabha. The Sankalp Patra moved beyond traditional ideological promises to embrace new objectives like infrastructure development and enhanced service deliveries. There were cultural promises too, including plans to establish centres across the world in the name of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, promote the classical Tamil languages, and organize Ramayan festival globally. Notably, absent was any mention of the controversial national register of citizens, though the party reiterated its commitment to implanting a uniform civil code and ‘one nation, one poll’.

The Election Commission has forfeited all claims to be the national guardian of constitutional democracy by soft pedalling on the complaints against alleged hate speech by prime minister Narendra Modi in what the whole country was watching as a litmus test for the independence and integrity of the poll body.

Girish Linganna - 2024-04-26 12:37

RSS GETTING WORRIED AT THE TRENDS OF VOTING IN LOK SABHA POLLS

NAGPUR DIVIDED OVER LENDING PRIME MINISTER A FREE HAND IN CAMPAIGN
Arun Srivastava - 2024-04-26 12:34
The electoral fate of Narendra Modi is in the hands of Lord Ram. But it seems that Lord Ram isn’t too keen to bestow his blessings on him. It is this realisation that he would eventually lose the election that has compelled Modi to rush to the doorsteps of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur and bow before the leadership.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has dangerously misread the Congress manifesto for Lok Sabha election 2024 and alleged in several of his election campaigns that Congress plan of equality is a “dangerous game.” He has also alarmed the electorate and said such things that are not actually written in the Congress’ manifesto, nor intended.

Sushil Kutty - 2024-04-26 11:55
The Janata Dal (Secular) is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Does this mean the JDS is fighting for its “political survival”? Ask party head HD Kumaraswamy, a former Karnataka Chief Minister and the son of ex-Prime Minister HD Devegowda, and he says JDS wants Lok Sabha seats to ensure good governance and Karnataka’s share of national resources.

REAL WAGES OF RURAL LABOUR IN INDIA HAVE STAGNATED DURING TEN YEARS OF MODI RULE

THE PAST DECADE HAS WITNESSED THE CONCENTRATION OF WEALTH IN ONLY FEW HANDS
Prabhat Patnaik - 2024-04-26 11:47
By now it is well-established by several researchers that the real wage rate in rural India, whether of agricultural labour or of rural labour in general, remained virtually stagnant between 2014-15 and 2022-23 (Das and Usami in Review of Agrarian Studies, July-December 2023; Dreze and Khera’s findings reported in The Telegraph, April 21, 2024). The price index used for calculating real wage movements in such studies is the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (in the case of agricultural labourers) or the Consumer Price Index for Rural Labour (in the case of rural labour generally).
