The Tories faced mounting calls for a general election on Friday after Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called for an “immediate” general election and said Ms May appeared to have accepted that “she cannot govern and nor can her divided and disintegrating party.”

Muslim, Yadav and dalit combination failed miserably to repeat the magic of 2015 assembly election and stop the juggernaut of BJP in Bihar. What was really intriguing this combination even could not reinforce the performance of the SP-BSP in Uttar Pradesh. Even in 2014 Lok Sabha elections the family members of the Samajwadi patriarch, Mul;ayam Singh Yadav had won seven seats. Of the 351seats that NDA won these two states contributed around 100 seats.

Also in the poll-2019 people voted on the name of Modi and nobody took name of the BJP. One may say that Modi has grown taller than the party.

Should anything change post-May 23? Narendra Modi dropped the ‘Chowkidar’ from his twitter handle and urged others to do the same. ‘Chowkidar’s expiry date coincided with Modi’s return to power. The world will once again watch Modi take oath as India’s Prime Minister and, let’s face it, a Prime Minister can become a ‘chowkidar’, but a chowkidar cannot become Prime Minister!

Even if Modi has no desire to do so he will be pressurised by the Madhya Pradesh BJP leaders who seem to be in a hurry to recapture power which they lost in November 2018. The Congress ministry headed by Kamal Nath is two short of majority in the state assembly. The Congress strength is 114 in the house of 230. The ministry enjoys support of BSP, SP and independent members.
