MADHABI’S MARKET MANTRA: REGULATORY HUMILITY IS BOTH FLATTERING AND FATTENING

‘ANY ARROGANT REGULATOR IS DOOMED TO FAIL, SO BE FRIENDLY TO KEY MARKET PLAYERS’
K Raveendran - 2024-09-28 11:53
SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch has revealed her mantra: regulatory humility. “Markets today are so complex; any arrogant regulator is doomed to fail,” she said addressing an event in Mumbai, held by the Association of Mutual Funds of India this week. Obviously, she has seen how a ‘friendly neighbourhood regulator’ is the favourite of market players just as it is personally rewarding. She also tried to make light work of the allegations of conflict of interest against her, saying it only created unnecessary controversy.

Rabindra Nath Sinha - 2024-09-28 11:50
KOLKATA: Tripura’s most prominent TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman (ex-royal scion) and Chakma student outfits are in limelight following their successful protests to highlight atrocities against minorities and indigenous people in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh. The interesting part is that Debbarman himself leads from the front but he assigns the responsibility for organising solidarity rallies and other formats of agitation to Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) – TIPRA Motha’s young wing.

NEW ARMY REGIMES IN WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES POSING CHALLENGE TO WESTERN POWERS

REBUILDING AILING ECONOMIES REMAINS THE MAJOR TASK AMIDST VARIED PRESSURES
Prabhat Patnaik - 2024-09-28 11:44
West Africa, which had been largely under French colonial rule, never saw decolonisation of the sort that India did. For a start, the erstwhile French colonies’ currency continued to be linked to the French franc at a fixed exchange rate, which meant that they could not pursue any fiscal and monetary policy of their choice (for that would have threatened the fixed exchange rate). Not only were their foreign exchange reserves kept by France, as had been the case with colonial India where its gold reserves, acquired through enforced borrowing (since all its annual export surplus earnings were taken by Britain) had been kept in London; but France also effectively controlled their fiscal and monetary policy despite formal decolonisation. Control over their natural resources remained with metropolitan corporations.

HIMACHAL MINISTER KNOWS HIS STATE PEOPLE MORE THAN RAHUL GANDHI

CONGRESS HIGH COMMAND DISPLEASURE OVER NAME PLATES MAY NOT WORK
Sushil Kutty - 2024-09-28 11:36
Does Congress general secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal know Himachal Pradesh more than Himachal Pradesh cabinet minister Vikramaditya Singh? For that matter, does Raebareli’s Congress MP Rahul Gandhi? Venugopal is Rahul Gandhi’s eyes and ears within the Congress framework but it would be naïve to believe he or Rahul Gandhi would have a better grasp of Himachal Pradesh matters than son-of-the-soil Vikramaditya Singh, who is Himachal Pradesh’s PWD minister and knows what the Wakf can do to landholding patterns in Himachal Pradesh if Muslims get to settle in big numbers in the hill-state.

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar whom Rabindranath Tagore had hailed as the symbol of 'ajeya paurasha, akhanda manushyatva' meaning invincible manliness and indelible humanism was the tallest among the social reformers and educators in 19th century Bengal. His 71 year life from September 26, 1820 to July 27, 1891 was the story of an unparalleled journey for modernising the Bengali language, spreading the education to the lowest level of the population including the girls through the setting up of schools, colleges and institutions and simultaneously fighting for the social emancipation of the Bengali women, especially widows.

Sushil Kutty - 2024-09-27 11:34
Everything about the Badlapur sexual assault case accused Akshay Shinde's encounter-killing is confusing except the reality that Akshay sexually assaulted two kindergarten kids in the school where he worked as a sweeper. Now, after he was killed in an encounter inside a moving police/prison van, there are questions about how could Akshay Shinde be killed in the closed confines of a moving van?
