Keeping an eye on next assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, the opposition parties too are playing Hindu card relating to the bhoomi pujan of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya which took place on August 5.

The new Nation Education Policy 2020 cannot rescue our children from the language trap they are in, both as a medium of instruction, and a language to be learned. It is more so because the policy document does not contain anything showing policymakers’ awareness about the status of language in the multilingual minds of our children. Contrary to it, the policy harps on outdated presumption of having unilingual, and thereby unicultural mind, which is wrong for almost all societies in India. The word ‘corona’ is the latest example, which may have entered in the minds of our children making them more multilingual than ever before. The words like school, TV, mobile, radio, computer, photo, phone, shirt, pant, etc are other examples.

The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for the Ram temple at Ayodhya, though organised by the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, became an official function with the Prime Minister laying the foundation for the temple with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Governor in attendance.

No education policy will prove to be of any worth unless the annual budgetary allocation for improvement of education is substantially increased. Besides the most important issue that needs an explanation from the government is what kind of education it envisages to provide to the students of the country.

The Union cabinet has recently approved the proposal to sell government stake in 23 public sector enterprises (PSEs). It neither has solutions to strengthen domestic public sector manufacturing and strengthening economic base nor creation of million jobs for unemployed in the country.

A year later or 50 days later or, shall we say, 500 years hence and we’re still squabbling; meaning, we haven’t changed at all in all these centuries. Why, there’s the Ramayana and there’s the Mahabharata to attest to the surety that man, especially the Bharatiye Manoos, is an indisputable candidate for carrying forward disputes, many of them without a leg to stand on.
