SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS HAVE TO BE ADOPTED
Raju Kumar - 2025-04-28 12:36
BHOPAL: Suicide has become a grave social and mental health crisis in India. The highest numbers of suicide cases are reported from states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Karnataka. The suicide rate is particularly higher in the southern states, while it is also becoming a growing concern in some northeastern states. Madhya Pradesh ranks third in the country in terms of the number of deaths due to suicide. The causes of suicide are multilayered, sectional and complex.

TRUMP’S WHIMS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIA MAKE A HEADY CONCOCTION

NEW DELHI MUST DO SOME TOUGH BARGAINING AS TRUMP IS ON A ROLL BACK SPREE
K Raveendran - 2025-04-26 11:49
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s declaration that India could be the first to finalise a trade deal with the United States after President Trump embarked on his reckless trade war against the world signals a strategic point. The proposed agreement offers India an escape hatch from the looming 26 percent reciprocal tariffs that, though currently suspended until July, represent the shadow of Trump’s trade belligerence. In essence, the development may well be India’s best opportunity to engage in tough, calculated bargaining with the United States. This is not just about sidestepping punitive measures; it is about reshaping the economic partnership with Washington on terms that serve India’s long-term interests.

Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2025-04-26 11:38
Close to 60 per cent people have reported that they were “struggling” with a further 12 per cent described themselves “suffering”. For billions across the globe, the struggle is either for finding work, or if they have jobs, they are struggling under fear of losing them. They are now losing their hope in their future.

STRATEGIC AMNESIA: HOW TRUMP’S TARIFFS DISMANTLED U.S. TRADE CREDIBILITY

TRADE WAR SET TO DE-ESCALATE AS U.S. ECONOMY TAKES THE HEAT
Dr Imran Khalid - 2025-04-26 11:34
President Donald Trump’s erratic dance with tariffs continues to confound not just global markets but even his own team. On April 22, in a move that underscored the White House’s habitual policy incoherence, Trump declared that the “very high” tariffs on Chinese goods would soon be “substantially reduced.” This comes after days of raising them dramatically at the start of the month, then selectively exempting key electronics sectors - moves that reflect both strategic confusion and political expediency.

SANGH PARIVAR IS DOMINATING MOST OF LEGISLATURES AND EXECUTIVE IN THE COUNTRY

COERCING THE JUDICIARY TO SUBMISSION IS A PART OF RSS PLAN FOR HINDU RASHTRA
Prof G Mohan Gopal - 2025-04-26 11:31
The recent trenchant villification of the Supreme Court and the judiciary by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey is in reality an attack against the Constitution and its fundamental principles and values. When the Vice President and Mr. Dubey reject judicial review of the actions of the highest authorities — of the President and of Parliament — they are, in effect, asking for the restoration of the pre-Constitutional principle that the “king can do no wrong”. By rejecting the Supreme Court’s protection of the constitutional rights of backward classes, minorities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women against exploitation, dehumanisation and oppression as “triggering civil war”, they are, in effect, lauding the perpetuation of exploitation, dehumanisation and oppression as “social peace”.

IRAN-U.S. TALKS FOR NORMALISING RELATIONS ARE WELCOME BUT MAJOR DOUBTS REMAIN

WASHINGTON MAY EXTRACT A FEW CONCESSIONS IN TERMS OF RIGHTS ON RESOURCES
Ben Chacko - 2025-04-26 11:10
LONDON: With the conclusion of the second round of talks between the representatives of the US and the Islamic Republic of Iran and an agreement to continue the talks, it can be stated that this course has thus far been able to prevent the current tensions [between Iran and the West] from spilling over into a US military attack [on Iran] and the start of a war, as well as stay the hand of the warmongering Israeli government away from attacking Iran.

IN THE APRIL 28 NATIONAL ELECTIONS IN CANADA, NDP’S FORTUNES MAY DIP

RULING LIBERAL PARTY IS FRONT RUNNER AS ANTI-TRUMP MOOD PREVAILS
Romain Chauvet - 2025-04-26 11:05
NEW YORK: Since its founding in 1961, Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) has never formed a federal government. But through a mix of policy advocacy, union alliances, and grassroots organizing, it has helped shape Canada’s political landscape — pushing issues like worker’s rights, strong public services, and robust social welfare into the national mainstream. In recent years, the party has also placed greater emphasis on the concerns of First Nations communities and other historically marginalized groups.

NARENDRA MODI HAS THE OPTIONS TO TEACH PAKISTAN A FEW LESSONS AVOIDING MILITARY STRIKES

A STRONG U.S. POSITION CAN HELP INDIA IN COMPLETELY DESTROYING TERRORIST CAMPS NEAR LoC
Nitya Chakraborty - 2025-04-25 11:46
Three days have passed since the savage terrorist attack at Pahalgam resulting in the death of 26 people, mostly tourists. The communal tenor of the massacre shocked the Indian people. There was unequivocal demand from the people supported by all sections of the political parties that the Narendra Modi government must take strong action against the backers of the terror gang Pakistan. India announced the retaliatory actions against Pakistan including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan followed this on Thursday by announcing that if India implements it, it will be considered as an act of war. Further, Pakistan threatened suspension of Simla Agreement.

A TALE OF TWO SUSPENSIONS OF INTERNATIONAL TREATIES

‘AN ACT OF TERROR’, ‘AN ACT OF WAR’ AND ‘A SUSPENSION OF PEACE’
Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2025-04-25 11:42
It is perhaps the worst of time. In an act of terror at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, 26 people were killed, the worst in the last 25 years since 2000. The world called it ‘An Act of Terror’. Prima facie evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in this terror attack prompted India to immediately take five stringent actions against Pakistan. One of them was suspension of Indus Waters Treaty of 1960. Pakistan called the suspension ‘An Act of War’ and then suspended Simla Agreement of 1972, which amounts to ‘A Suspension of Peace’. UN calls for ‘maximum restraint’. The tale is in progress and nobody exactly knows which way it would turn.
