BEIJING HOPES TO BENEFIT FROM EASING OF INDO-US TRADE
Subrata Majumder - 2017-07-01 10:26
The Atlantic Council, a top US think tank, urged President Donald Trump to prioritize its ties with India to counter Beijing’s growing influence, in a paper, “Transforming India from a balancing to leading power’. Despite this, China was upbeat on Modi-Trump summit before the meet. China’s leading media Global Times hogged with surprise, saying “China could benefit from Trump-Modi summit”. The think tanks and analysts were bogged down by suspense with the Chinese overtone.

100 DAYS OF CHIEF MINISTER YOGI ADITYANATH

COMMUNAL VIOLENCE, LOAN WAIVERS LEAVE UTTAR PRADESH RATTLED
Harihar Swarup - 2017-07-01 10:13
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrates a hundred days in office, but its report card is a mixed bag. BJP’s electoral sweep in the UP polls earlier this year – where it won a mammoth 312 out of 403 seats – was always going to raise expectations for the incoming administration. Given the size of UP and the breadth of its challenges the Yogi government risks becoming a victim of its own ambitions.

BHOPAL: As far as minority bashing is concerned, Madhya Pradesh is no exception. In many cases Muslims and Christians have been arrested on almost imaginary charges. In one case, the charge of sedition was slapped on a group of 15 Muslim youngsters following the allegation that they celebrated Pakistan's victory in Champions Trophy finals and also burst crackers.

HIPOCRACY OF SERVING DALITS THROUGH SYMBOLISM

NEITHER KOVIND NOR MEIRA CAN BE WORTHY SUCCESSOR TO KALAM
K Raveendran - 2017-06-30 10:41
Symbolism is the essence of Indian culture. From touching the feet of elders to show respect to the worship of god, we Indians celebrate the symbols, irrespective of what we do to our generation of elderly people or whatever we end up doing in the name of propitiating the gods. The symbolism must go on. That’s what really matters.

MODI SHOULD TAKE UP BORDER ISSUE WITH CHINESE PRESIDENT AT G-20

PERSONAL INTERACTION HELPS IN DEFUSING SENSITUVE ISSUES
Nitya Chakraborty - 2017-06-30 10:37
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be attending the G-20 summit at Humburg in Germany on July 7 and 8, has got a good opportunity to meet the Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss about the tensions in the India-China border on the Sikkim side. After a long time, the Chinese media is reminding India of taking lessons from the 1962 war as if the situation is heading in that direction. The Indian army chief has gone to Sikkim on a two day visit and the preparations on both sides do not augur well for the future of India- China relations.

CHINA WORRIED AT INDIAN MOVES IN NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES

BORDER INCURSION IN SIKKIM IS A PART OF BEIJING’S STRATEGY
Barun Das Gupta - 2017-06-29 12:39
It is the same old story. Media reports Chinese incursion across Indian border; some videos are shown. The Indian army denies any incursion took place. As on previous occasions, China ‘warns’ India to withdraw its troops from the territory which the Chinese claim is theirs. New Delhi plays it cool. Even the exact date and time of the face-off are not given. It all creates a feeling of déjà vu. It happened so many times during the UPA regime; it is now happening during the NDA rule.

INVOLVING WESTINGHOUSE IN REACTORS BUILDING WILL BE SUICIDAL

MODI GOVERNMENT IS REFUSING TO LEARN LESSONS FROM THE PAST
Nitya Chakraborty - 2017-06-29 12:31
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is refusing to learn any lessons from the developments in the global civilian nuclear power industry in the recent past. Despite the precarious financial position of the US company Westinghouse after the Japanese major Toshiba’s withdrawal from the nuclear power business, Indian government has agreed to involve this bankrupt US company in the civilian nuclear power generation programme as a result of the big pressure from the Trump administration. At the recent India-US summit on June 26, the issue was discussed and the White House came out with a statement that the United States and India are committed to realizing commercial civil nuclear cooperation, in particular through a contract for six Westinghouse electric AP-1000 nuclear reactors to be built in Andhra Pradesh.
