Recently, cryptocurrency entrepreneur and investor Balaji S Srinivasan posted a small cryptic message about the US presidential election on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote “Polymarket is the news,” and shared a screenshot of the prediction betting website, where the chances of Joe Biden winning the election was shown to be 25% while his chances of losing was 70%.

The verdict of the 18th Lok Sabha polls, it goes without saying, was a slap on the face of the BJP and signified its moral defeat. It has also been indicative of the comeback of the Congress and a signal to the regional parties that if they stick together, the cementing factor being secularism, then even the BJP can be successfully confronted. That way it is a moral victory for the anti-BJP coalition, represented, howsoever fragile it appeared, by the INDIA alliance. But amidst these two positive developments the most disturbing thing that has a dampening effect on the election scenario is the performance of the Left.

Alarmingly, over one in five young people are not in employment, education, or training (NEET). Compliance with fundamental labour rights has deteriorated.

Amidst the euphoria of massive victory for Labour party in the parliamentary elections in Britain, there is certainly a bad news for its leader and now Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer that his arch bête noire Jeremy Corbyn has defeated Keir’s nominee with a huge margin from the traditional Labour constituency. This may be inconsequential development. But certainly, it sends a strong message that Labour rank and file are not fully with Keir Starmer notwithstanding his leading the Labour to a big win in July 4 polls.
