Warren Gamaliel Bennis, an American scholar, author and pioneer of the contemporary field of Leadership studies, once said: “I used to think that running an organization was equivalent to conducting a symphony orchestra. But I don't think that's quite it; it's more like jazz. There is more improvisation.” For Arup Roy Choudhury, chairman cum managing director (CMD) of NTPC Limited, India’s largest electricity producer, leading the powerhouse is also like conducting both a symphony orchestra and jazz before a packed house of critics and stakeholders, representing a 1.2-billion strong audience.
