L.S. Herdenia - 2013-04-03 11:30
BHOPAL: The constitution of the Rajnath Singh team has evoked mixed reactions in Madhya Pradesh. There were high hopes in the camp of the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan that he will find a place in the Parliamentary Board of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His followers used to feel elated whenever his name was mentioned along with that of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Among others, BJP stalwarts like LK Advani, would also refer to Chauhan, whenever tributes were paid to Narendra Modi, as a competent Chief Minister.

WEAKENED UPA ON SHAKY GROUND

ALLIES TO EXTRACT THEIR POUND OF FLESH
Praful Bidwai - 2013-04-03 04:50
When the Trinamool Congress, the second largest component of the United Progressive Alliance, with 19 MPs, walked out of it last September, nobody thought that its departure would immediately destabilise the government. Although the UPA’s Lok Sabha strength suddenly fell to 254, well below the effective half-way mark (271), it seemed confident of retaining the ‘outside support’ of as many as 28 MPs belonging to Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (21), Mr Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (4) and the HD Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal-Secular (3).

FROM VAJPAYEE’S MODERATION TO MODI’S MACHISMO

BJP FALLING BACK ON PERVERSE HARDLINE AGENDA
Amulya Ganguli - 2013-04-03 04:44
Since LK Advani’s pale imitation of Atal Behari Vajpayee’s moderation had failed to impress the voters in the last general election, the BJP has evidently decided to be more forthright in its approach to the next big test, which may be in 2014 or earlier. Hence, Narendra Modi’s return to the parliamentary board after a gap of six years. If the same man, viz. party president Rajnath Singh, who kept him out earlier has now facilitated Modi’s rehabilitation, it means that the Gujarat strong man has emerged as the first among equals in the organisation.
