Viet Nam's Mekong Delta gets $309.89 million loan for new power plant

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of $309.89 million for a new 750 megawatt (MW) power plant in Viet Nam that will provide critically needed electricity to the country’s energy-starved south.

The Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have noted that St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ economy has been adversely affected by two natural disasters in the last twelve months, on top of the impacts of the global slowdown and higher commodity prices. As a result, real GDP has contracted and public sector debt has risen. Directors welcomed the authorities’ commitment to prudent macroeconomic policies and encouraged them to press ahead with efforts to enhance the economy’s resilience to shocks and foster sustainable growth.
