SHARIF VICTORY LEADS TO HOPES IN KASHMIR

JOINT ANTI – TERROR STRATEGY MAY TAKE SHAPE
B.K.Chum - 2013-05-20 14:42
Events slated to take place during 2013-2014 may prove to be a turning point for Jammu and Kashmir. The first event was the May 11 elections in Pakistan which have catapulted Nawaz Sharif as prime minister-designate. The second will be the Lok Sabha elections in India which will decide whether the Congress-led UPA or the BJP-led NDA will form the government. The third event will be the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to be held late in 2014 after Omar Abdullah completes his six-year term as chief minister. The fourth, an important but, in a way negative event, will be the US forces pullout from Afghanistan and the likelihood of the Pakistan and Afghanistan-based terror organizations intensifying their activities in Pakistan and India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two studies by the World Bank and OECD make rosy projections for developing countries to account for 50 per cent of global accumulated capital stock, with more than two-thirds of world investment, by 2030 but these assumptions are on a given set of policies to unfold and challenges to be overcome.

Harihar Swarup - 2013-05-18 09:21
Can the Central Bureau of Investigation be truly made independent or granted complete autonomy? Perhaps not, till politicians stop using the premier investigation agency for settling scores with their rivals. Once in opposition politicians decry political misuse of the agency but when in office, they cheerfully lord over the CBI.

PSU COMPANIES USED TO BAIL OUT GOVT

DISINVESTMENT MUST HAVE MORE TEETH
Nantoo Banerjee - 2013-05-18 09:14
It may sound rather odd that India’s public sector (PSU), set up with great fanfare during the Nehru-Indira Gandhi era to champion the cause of the country’s socialist agenda, is now being projected as a symbol of success of the economy’s conversion into market capitalism. This is despite the fact that only a small portion of their equity is sold to the public by the government in the last two decades of India’s economic and market reform. And, the big buzz around these PSU shares belies their miniscule market presence.
