United Arab Emirates: Growth prospects remained unchanged for 2011

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission led by Taline Koranchelian visited the United Arab Emirates during February 27-March 7, 2011 to conduct the discussions for the Article IV consultation with the United Arab Emirates. The mission met with H.E. Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, H.E. Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, H.E. Governor of the Central Bank of United Arab Emirates Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, other senior government officials, as well as representatives from the business and financial community.

Indoor air pullution in rural India is on the increase

New Delhi: NEERI, Nagpur has undertaken a study, namely, Control of Indoor Air Pollution in Rural Areas under RSWNET (Rural Development, SC/ST, Women, North-East and Tribal Sector) project during 2009-10. NEERI has reported an increase in concentration of Carbon Monoxide, PM10 and Volatile Organic Compounds in indoor air in the rural household due to burning of wood, coal and dung-cake in kitchen.

53 species of Indian herbal medicinal plants at the verge of extinction

New Delhi: According to Botanical Survey of India (BSI), about 53 species of herbal medicinal plants, out of 18794 vascular plants so far recorded from the country, are prone to extinction due to various anthropogenic activities.

Defence Deals with Blacklisted Companies put on hold

New Delhi: Proceedings have been initiated against some firms in the matter relating to the case against Shri Sudipta Ghosh, former DGOF and some others. However the matter is still in process and final orders regarding punishment, including blacklisting or otherwise are yet to be passed. Therefore, these firms are not in the category of blacklisted firms yet.

New Delhi: China disputes the International Boundary between India and China. There is no commonly delineated Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two countries. Both sides patrol up to their respective perceptions of LAC. From time to time, on account of differences in the perception of the LAC, situations have arisen on the ground that could have been avoided if we had a common perception of the LAC. The number of such incidents in last three years have generally been as per established pattern.

India considering increase in FDI in Defence upto 74 per cent

New Delhi: The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has circulated a Discussion Paper suggesting raising FDI cap in Defence manufacturing sector to 74% or more from the existing 26%.
