BJP’S STRATEGIC IMPASSE OVER MODI

GROWTH PLANK OR SAFFRON AGENDA?
Amulya Ganguli - 2013-04-10 01:01
The BJP faces a peculiar situation. While Narendra Modi is relentlessly pushing his own candidature for the prime minister’s post, there is no consensus on him within the party, let alone in the NDA, as there was in the case of Atal Behari Vajpayee in 1996 and 2004 and LK Advani in 2009.

TIES WITH NDA, BJP CHALLENGED
B.K. Chum - 2013-04-09 01:38
Which way will the Akali Dal go if the BJP names Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections? The question needs to be examined in the backdrop of the Akali leadership stand on its relationship with the BJP and the NDA. The chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has repeatedly declared that his party and the BJP are bound in “life-long ties” and that the Akali Dal being an inseparable constituent of the NDA will back its decisions.

LEADING A POWERHOUSE FROM THE FRONT
Nantoo Banerjee - 2013-04-09 01:29
Warren Gamaliel Bennis, an American scholar, author and pioneer of the contemporary field of Leadership studies, once said: “I used to think that running an organization was equivalent to conducting a symphony orchestra. But I don't think that's quite it; it's more like jazz. There is more improvisation.” For Arup Roy Choudhury, chairman cum managing director (CMD) of NTPC Limited, India’s largest electricity producer, leading the powerhouse is also like conducting both a symphony orchestra and jazz before a packed house of critics and stakeholders, representing a 1.2-billion strong audience.

HIDDEN CRIMINALITY OF CHIT FUNDS

‘MURKY’ MEDIA IN COLLUSION WITH WB GOVERNMENT
Subhankar Gupta - 2013-04-07 08:59
The media scenario in West Bengal has been discreetly becoming murkier as never in the past in sync with the sprawling parallel sub-economy of chit funds that made forays into the fourth estate with hidden motive comprising multiple objectives one of which is to make the journalists and the media dance to their tune, namely, silent spectatorship to unbridled raising of money trampling the rule book of the banking regulator, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and capital market watchdog, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

MODI’S AUTHORITARIAN APPROACH MAY NOT WORK

CENTRE NEEDS A CONSENSUS LEADER
Harihar Swarup - 2013-04-07 08:48
Presuming Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister, how will he behave; what will be his priorities, both high and low? Will he reflect both good and bad traits of his strong personality in governance and be more assertive than his predecessor?

CENTRALIST POLICY DEVASTATED EASTERN STATES

NITISH’S POLITICAL MASTERSTROKE
Garga Chatterjee - 2013-04-05 15:01
The recent induction of Narendra Modi to the parliamentary board of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has added one more chapter to the cold war between Janata Dal (United) and its no-as-secular ally. The BJP has been slowly pushing the envelope and this NDA partner has been resisting. When a chief minister of an opposition ruled state makes a visit to the New Delhi Durbar to meet Manmohan Singh, there is reason enough to follow it. When that chief minister in question is Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, one must sit up and take notice.
