Jagannath Sarkar who died early this year at the ripe age of 92, was one of the veterans of the communist movement in India. He played a leading role in building up of the CPI’s mass base in Bihar in the 1960s and 1970s. The Left base faced erosion following the Mandal agitation and there has been no reversal till now.
