World Bank Approves a Grant of US$50 Million for Growth with Governance in the Mineral Sector Project (PROMINES)

Washington DC - The World Bank has approved a US$50 Million grant to the Democratic Republic of Congo to increase transparency and accountability in the mining sector so that the income from natural resources will be used for inclusive and sustainable growth. The “Growth with Governance” project also aims to help public sector agencies become more efficient and transparent in handling mining operations, leading to better economic and environmental outcomes.

New Delhi: A National Consultation Meeting on Beggary was organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment here yesterday. The Meeting was chaired by the Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Mukul Wasnik, and was attended by senior representatives of Government of nearly all major States, Academic Institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations working in this field. There was consensus in the meeting that beggary is a complex issue, which needs to be tackled with care and sensitivity.

MRPL Signs 2 Billion USD Product Supply Agreement with STC Mauritius

New Delhi: Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd, (MRPL) a mini-ratna subisidary company of ONGC, has inked an agreement with State Trading Corporation, Mauritius for supply of liquid petroleum products amounting to 1.1 MMT per annum valued at 660 million USD at current fuel prices. The products comprising Jet A1 (ATF) MoGas i.e MS (95 RON) , GasOil i.e HSD and Furnace Oil ( three grades) will be supplied for a period of 3 years and the total value of this deal at current prices is 2 billion USD.

Had the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru been alive today and witnessed the goings on in the “Temple of Democracy” he would definitely have been put to shame and even wondered whether this country did deserve this after the hard fought freedom struggle. Over the years it has been seen pecially since the mid-1980s that parliament which was meant to be a source of debate and information has been reduced to a place where street battles and agitational politics is resorted to by members attempting to score some brownie
