The much-hyped South Asian University, mooted in 2005, has begun functioning from August 26, 2010 from rented premises in New Delhi on a modest scale. Fifty students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have started studying at the University. Initially, Post Graduate Course in Development Economics and Master of Computer Applications as decided by Inter Governmental Steering Committee and approved by all SAARC Member States have commenced.
