International Seminar and Exhibition on Kumarajiva begins in New Delhi

New Delhi: A three-day International Seminar and exhibition to critically study and evaluate the contribution of Kumarajiva in enhancement of Indo-Chinese cultural relations and other related issues began here today under the aegis of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (Union Ministry of Culture).

Buddhist savants who traveled from India to China and from China to India have contributed to the evolution of Sino–Indian cultural relations in the classical age. They contributed not only to the spread of Buddhism but also to an understanding of social and economic relations, as torchbearers of Indian civilization to Central Asia and China. Unfortunately ancient records of India are silent about them but there are a large number of documents preserved in Chinese and Central Asian languages.

Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have recognized that Tuvalu faces tremendous challenges because of its remote location, limited land area, lack of resources, serious capacity constraints and the potential impact of climate change. The uncertain global recovery is adding to the country’s vulnerabilities. In light of the difficult near and medium-term prospects of the economy, Directors emphasized the need for resolute fiscal adjustment and structural reforms. Noting the limited domestic job opportunities, they agreed that the authorities should promote overseas employment opportunities, which would generate income and help reduce poverty.

IMF Arrangement for Sri Lanka Approves US$216.6 Million Disbursement

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today completed the fifth review of Sri Lanka's economic performance under a program supported by a Stand-By Arrangement (SBA). The completion of the review enables the immediate disbursement of an amount equivalent to SDR 137.8 million (about US$216.6 million), bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to an amount equivalent to SDR 964.6 million (about US$1.516 billion).

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team led by Mr. Christopher Jarvis visited Belarus during January 25 to February 2, 2011 to continue Article IV consultations with the Belarusian authorities and other stakeholders.
