New York: The UN Security Council today set up a new body to finish the remaining tasks of the United Nations war crimes tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, while calling on the courts to conclude their work by the end of 2014.

New York: The United Nations mission in Chad and the Central African Republic (MINURCAT) has handed over its programmes to the Government of Chad and the UN agencies in the country as it prepares to wind up its responsibilities there at the end of this month.

Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have commended the authorities’ stabilization efforts that helped Seychelles overcome the 2008 balance of payments and debt crisis and the recent global recession. Directors noted a remarkable turnaround of economic policies, including foreign exchange market liberalization and floating of the rupee, exceptional fiscal adjustment, and enhanced management of public finances and the central bank. They also noted the important role played by international assistance, which facilitated successful restructuring of external debt and the return of investor confidence.

New Delhi: India and Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote technical assistance services in the field of highway management and development in India. The MoU was signed by Shri Kamal Nath, Minister of Road Transport and Highway, Government of India and Dato’ Shaziman bin Abu Mansor, Minister of Works, Government of Malaysia, in the presence of Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

New Delhi: In pursuance of the decision taken in the First meeting of Civil Aviation Economic Advisory Council held on 13 December 2010, it has been decided to set up a Working Group on Regulatory Framework to protect consumer interest including disclosure of tariffs and conditions of service by domestic airlines under Civil Aviation Economic Advisory Council (CAEAC) in the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

24th December is an important day in the history of consumer movement in India as on this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 came into existence. Consumer Protection Act is considered as the Magna Carta for protecting consumer rights through establishment of advisory and adjudication authorities. This year the theme proposed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs is “Consumers! Discharge your Responsibilities: Assert your Rights” which clearly means ‘there cannot be rights without responsibilities’.
