New Delhi: Several state governments have not achieved the target set for tree plantation during the eleventh five-year plan either due to inadequate funds or poor infrastructure. Year-wise targets for afforestation/tree planting are fixed under the 20 Point Programme.

New Delhi: There will be no increase in the passenger fares of any class or category of trains. Freight tariffs will also remain the same for 2010-11. Service charges for e-tickets and freight charges for food-grains will be reduced. This was announced by the Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee in Parliament today while presenting Railway Budget for the new financial year.

New Delhi: As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), water quality of river Yamuna is affected in the stretches between Wazirabad to Okhla in Delhi and Kosikalan to Juhika in Uttar Pradesh due to disposal of sewage and industrial effluents.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee presenting her second budget for railways for 2010-11 shifted her focus from outright populism to a new thrust for private sector participation in the expansion of vast rail network and its modernisation, in realising Vision 2020 of 'uniting India through rail'. Predictably she did not revise fares or freight, no matter the need to generate more internal resources for future development. She, however, reduced reservation charges for passengers to Rs.10 for sleeper class and from Rs.40 to Rs.20 for AC classes. She also announced a concession of Rs.100 per wagon for foodgrains and kerosene.

New Delhi: The Vienna-based International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) in its report for the year 2009 has said that India has become a hub of drugs sold through illegal internet pharmacies where orders placed abroad are dispatched to buyers using courier and postal services.
