Electric traction reduced nation's dependence on largely imported diesel oil as it is capable of using indigenously available alternative sources of primary energies, like coal of any grade, hydel power, surplus petroleum gas, nuclear power etc. In view of the hike in oil prices, it is a challenge to contain cost and make judicious use of energy in hauling trains.

IRFC authorized to issue Rs.5,000 crore tax-free bonds

New Delhi: The Central Government have authorized the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) to issue tax-free, secured, redeemable, non-convertible bonds of the total value of Rs.5,000 crore carrying an interest rate in the range of 6.50% to 7.25% per annum, through public issue or otherwise by 31st March 2010.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant in aid worth Rs. 59,79,38,000/- (Rupees Fifty nine crore Seventy nine Lakh and Thirty Eight Thousand) crore only as Central share of funds under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) to the District Rural Development Agencies in the four States, namely Andhra Pradesh, Manipur ,Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal during the year 2009-2010.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant in aid worth Rs. 100,74,50,000/- (Rupees One Hundred crore Seventy Four Lakh and Fifty Thousand only) as 1st installment of Batch V (Supplementary) under ADB assisted RRSIP to the Madhya Pradesh Rural Roads Development Agency (MPRRDA for the construction of Rural Roads in the State under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
