Model rules for the Right to Education Act circulated to State Governments

New Delhi: The Model Rules for the Right to Education (RTE) Act have been approved by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Kapil Sibal. They have been circulated to the State Governments in the meeting of the State Education Secretaries for SSA and School Education.

Chandigarh: Union Ministry of Environment and Forests in collaboration with the Centre for Environment Education organized an open interaction on National Consultations on Bt Brinjal at Chandigarh. Union Minister of State for Environment & Forests (Independent Charge), Shri Jairam Ramesh interacted with the farmers, scientists, doctors, environmentalists, NGOs and representatives of other section of society to take public perception on the introduction of the Bt Brinjal in India. As many as 500 participants took part in the open session and expressed their views on pros and cons of the Bt. Brinjal.

New Delhi: The Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the Quick estimates of national income, consumption expenditure, saving and capital formation for the financial year 2008-09. Alongwith the Quick Estimates, the CSO is also introducing the new series of national accounts statistics with base year 2004-05, in place of the previous series with base year 1999-2000.

It is high time the Government stopped private power companies from using their resources to promote power projects outside their state of origin. Promoters should be most welcome to set up power plants in any state of their choice without diverting capital from an existing power company to another in another state.

Predictably, the Reserve Bank of India limited its current response to the emerging challenge of generalised inflation with a 75 basis point rise in CRR (Cash Reserve Ratio) from 5 to 5.75 per cent in two stages beginning February 13 and left key policy rates (repo and reverse repo) unchanged for the present as, in its view, the economic recovery is yet fully to take hold. The increase in CRR will impound Rs.36,000 crores and RBI hopes this reduction in liquidity would anchor inflationary expectations.
