The National Capital Territory of Delhi drew political attention of the entire nation on August 16, due to a very short-term problem that occurred in the early stages of the opposition INDIA alliance, which can be termed as only teething troubles. A ‘news hype’, a well-known term in the newsrooms, overblown the issue as if INDIA alliance is well neigh broken. However, the wisdom got precedence over certain political immaturities in both the Congress and AAP camps, and what seemed to be a major eruption subsided within hours. The lesson for INDIA alliance is: they need to tread carefully across the states and UTs while avoiding political immaturity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Red Fort speech on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day had all the hallmarks which have become typical of his Independence Day speeches of the past years. There were the boastful claims of how, since 2014, India has made tremendous progress in all fields. The only new addition was Modi’s claim that we can look forward to a thousand years of `Amrit Kaal’ as compared to the thousand years of slavery which began with Muslim rule and ended with British rule. There was, as usual, a long litany of achievements of the government in different spheres with the focus firmly being on the central role of Modi himself.

So, ‘INDIA’ is vacillating. Home Minister Amit Shah says Prime Minister Narendra Modi will get his wish, a majority and a third term. This, when all that INDIA has to do is prevent India from voting for Modi. The Congress should get its leadership role in INDIA right. Rahul Gandhi must get real. Wanting to become a ‘tapaswi’ is the worst that can happen to man.

Truncated and bereft of a distinct political dimension, the Jharkhand state Congress has prevailed on its central leadership to go ahead with its electoral preparedness.
