National Rural Drinking Water Programme to be modified in the Eleventh Plan

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today approved modifications of the rural water supply programme, namely National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP). The NRDWP addresses issues of coverage of uncovered and quality affected habitations, ensuring a safe source of water supply for every habitation round the year and facilitates transfer of management of local water supply to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).

Procurement of three new Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers from Netherlands approved

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved the procurement of three Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs) of 5000 cubic meter hopper capacity by Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) under the administrative control of Ministry of Shipping from M/s. IHC Dredgers B.V., The Netherlands at a building cost of Euro 75,480,000 (Seventy five million four hundred eighty thousand euro) and 70,465,000 (Seventy million four hundred sixty five thousand euro).

Renewed attention needs to be paid to improving farm production and productivity, better utilization of agricultural inputs, proper marketing infrastructure and support, stepping up investment in agriculture with due emphasis on environmental concerns and efficient food management.

New Delhi: The recovery in the industrial sector is clearly discernible as corroborated by both the data on national accounts and the index of industrial production (IIP). The downward trend observed in the rate of growth of the IIP that spanned almost eight quarters (beginning the first quarter of 2007-08 and continuing through to the last quarter of 2008-09) stands reversed as gleaned from the latest data for the current fiscal. After reaching a trough of 0.6% during the second half of 2008-09, growth in the IIP revived to a level of 7.7% during April-November 2009-10.

New Delhi: India's share in world merchandise exports after remaining unchanged at 1.1% between 2007 and 2008, reached 1.2% in 2009 (Jan-June) mainly due to the relatively greater fall in world export growth than India. The outlook for India's trade sector in 2010 has brightened with prospects of recovery in world output and trade volumes.
