Indian Industries urged to create 'Solar Valleys'

New Delhi: The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, with a clarion call to industry to create 'Solar Valleys' on the lines of Silicon Valleys that are spurring the Indian IT industry across India.

New Delhi: As per the data maintained by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 5166 fruits and vegetables processing units were licensed under Fruit Products Order (FPO),1955 in the country as on 01.01.2009.

The level of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is estimated at only 2.20%. The low level of fruit and vegetable processing is due to non-availability of processable varieties of raw materials at right quantity and quality, seasonable nature of industry, lack of adequate post-harvest infrastructure such as lack of cold chain facilities, transportation, proper storage facilities etc.
