Illegal immigration from India to the United States is emerging as a significant issue between the two countries. India has one of the highest numbers of illegal immigrants in the US, with an estimated 750,000 people. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two countries have built better relations. However, President Donald Trump's early decision to target illegal immigrants for deportation included many people from India. In his second term, Trump focuses on two main issues: sending unlawful immigrants back to their home countries and addressing reciprocal tariff policies.

UN Geneva’s Beyond Lab’s movement around ‘Beyond GDP’ has many lessons for India, the country whose ruling establishment has recently created a hype around its GDP growth. Quoting the IMF data, the government said India’s economy has reached $4.3 trillion in 2025, which was $2.1 trillion in 2015, has become fifth largest economy under PM Narendra Modi’s 10 years of rule, will surpass Japan’s GDP in few months, and could overtake Germany by 2027. What the GDP figures do not show is that India has largest number of poor in the world, and 7th largest country in wealth inequality. It is the stark example of GDP measuring development very poorly or not at all, in fact, and therefore, the country has many lessons to learn from the Beyond GDP movement.

The Xi Jinping-Yunus meeting held in Beijing on March 28 gave its final seal of approval to the economic strategy of Dhaka to replace India by China for the country’s economic reconstruction. Bangladesh has not just shut the doors but also the window to New Delhi in its economic arena. The consistent work in building India-Bangladesh economic relations to a greater heights by India in the last five decades both by the earlier Congress governments and the Narendra Modi government now lies tattered.

For all those who prefer order to chaos and method to madness, Donald Trump remains an unending enigma. His entire political career seems to thrive on a disruption strategy that is difficult to anticipate, yet somehow calculated in its unpredictability. In the economic arena, where conventional wisdom has long dictated stability and predictability as virtues, Trump’s penchant for upending global norms has left analysts baffled and many global leaders scrambling. Whether by design or accident, Trump’s actions have continually undermined the pillars of the global economic order, leaving chaos in his wake while promising Americans that this is, in fact, a new order designed to restore their power.

Indian workers’ dream of getting decent job in 2024-25 under the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, which was part of the Prime Minister’s Package for Employment and Skilling has completely shattered, since the Centre failed to even launch the scheme. At the fag end of the financial year 2024-25, which would conclude on March 31, 2025, the Secretary of Union Ministry of Labour and Employment Sumita Dawra has said that the scheme is now ready and in its final stage of approval.

No matter what the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation may claim, the fact is India’s economy is falling apart. It is hit directly by incompetence and absence of a coherent strategy of the government.

Yet, beyond military considerations, the fundamental challenge before Europe is how to redefine its role in an increasingly transactional world order.
