POLITICAL NARRATIVE FOR 2024 POLLS IS STILL CHALLENGING FOR INDIA BLOCK

OPPOSITION LEADERS SHOULD AVOID WALKING INTO RSS-BJP TRAP DURING CAMPAIGN
Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2023-09-14 12:34
The ‘Sanatan Dharm’ controversy is the latest example of a leader of opposition unwittingly walking into RSS-BJP’s political turf made for PM Narendra Modi to play on with advantage over the opposition INDIA alliance, which they are projecting as anti-Hindu. PM Modi and his associates have been trying to drive the entire opposition leaders into their own turf, since they believe they are invincible on their own turf. INDIA alliance has already noted this and has decided to steer clear of the trap, while trying to make its own political turf for the Lok Sabha Election 2024, the result of which would much depend on whose turf the electoral battle would be fought – PM Modi’s or INDIA alliance’s.

Sushil Kutty - 2023-09-14 11:45
So, the terror in Jammu and Kashmir isn’t over as claimed by the Narendra Modi government. Just when the rest of India was starting to believe the Centre of having established “peace”, and only months after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi played a game of “snowball” with sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Srinagar, comes the killings of a Rashtriya Rifles ‘CO’, an Army Major and a Deputy Superintendent of the JK Police in an encounter with Pakistani terrorists this side of the LoC. ‘ONE NATION, ONE ELECTION’ WILL TEST THE LIMITS OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA

ONOE WILL LEAD TO DECLINE OF ACCOUNTABILITY BY STATE GOVTS AND CENTRE
Mohammad Wasim - 2023-09-14 11:40
‘One nation, one election’ (ONOE) is often cited as a method of reducing electoral costs. But a holistic evaluation of any democratic institution or any change in it requires its examination with respect to the impact on other democratic institutions as well as on democracy as a whole. In brief, consideration ought to be given to whether ONOE would have a favourable impact on our democratic republican polity or otherwise.

SUPREME COURT BENCH MUST DECIDE EARLY ABOUT REPEALING SECTION 124A OF IPC

CENTRE IS CONFUSING ITS STAND ON SEDITION LAW THROUGH ITS PROPOSED BILL
Sushil Kutty - 2023-09-13 13:08
For the umpteenth time in umpteen years, Section 124A or what is called the Sedition law could end up facing the guillotine though the Centre wants the process halted with the Supreme Court clearly not willing to acquiesce. The Modi government is no different from other governments. When in the opposition, all parties clamour for the complete striking down of Section 124A but it is an altogether different tune when in government. This time, however, the Supreme Court appears to be in no mood to give in.

CENTRE REFUSES FUND TO PUNJAB TO STOP STUBBLE BURNING

AIR QUALITY HAS ALREADY BECOME UNHELATHY IN NCT DELHI
Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2023-09-13 12:39
As September begins, air quality in the National Capital Territory of Delhi starts deteriorating every year. As on September 13, 2023, it has already become unhealthy for sensitive groups, and tomorrow it is likely to turn unhealthy for all, with Air Quality Index (AQI) has been estimated to rise from 117 to 153. It would further deteriorate with beginning of stubble burning in Punjab, since the Centre has refused to share funds with Punjab for the scientific management of paddy stubble, and the state has not enough funds to implement the scheme on its own. It means, Delhi is heading towards a dangerously polluted winter, slugfest between the Centre led by BJP and the States of Delhi and Punjab led by AAP would start and the people would suffer as usual.

NO TALK ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS ABOLITION IN THE G20 SUMMIT IS DISAPPOINTING

TWO DAY CONCLAVE ALSO FAILED TO TAKE NOTE OF THE PROLIFERATION OF ARMS MARKET
Dr. Arun Mitra - 2023-09-13 12:25
The G20 summit publicized with much fanfare ended without any commitment for disarmament and abolition of nuclear weapons. There were several expectations from this summit since it was held in the background of on-going war between Russia and Ukraine; and it was held in India which has been a strong protagonist of a nuclear weapon free world. Therefore, it was felt that some concrete decisions will be taken on the issues of disarmament and peace.
