POLITICAL OPPOSITION FACES WITCH-HUNT FROM PARTIES IN POWER

POLICE AND CENTRAL AGENCIES PLAY TO THEIR MASTER’S TUNE
Nantoo Banerjee - 2023-03-13 11:27
The arrest of Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia last month by a federal agency, CBI, for alleged financial corruption connected with the change in the state’s liquor policy, has understandably upset a large section of opposition parties across the country. Last year, Delhi's health minister Satyendra Jain was arrested by another federal agency, ED, on charges of money laundering. Both of them resigned from their respective ministerial posts while being in jail.

DA AGITATION PUTS TMC GOVERNMENT BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE

WORKERS DEMAND HIGHER ALLOWANCE, MAMATA CHOOSES WELFARE SCHEMES
Tirthankar Mitra - 2023-03-13 10:42
The Trinamool Congress-run West Bengal government seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place over the ongoing agitation by state government employees demanding dearness allowance at par with their central government counterparts. The month-long hunger strike by agitating state government employees at the foot of the iconic Shahid Minar seems to have become a port of call for the Opposition leaders of the state, cutting across ideological barriers. The DA agitation seems to be the last thing that the ruling dispensation was expecting to deal with.

CAN KISHIDA UPGRADE ABE’S LEGACY FOR A NEW ERA OF JAPAN-INDIA TIES?

TOKYO-NEW DELHI BOND AWAITS FRESH LEASE OF LIFE TO COUNTER BEIJING
Subrata Majumder - 2023-03-13 10:39
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s upcoming visit to India, starting March 20, 2023, has been engulfed by controversy, after Japan refused to send its Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi to the G-20 summit held in New Delhi on March 3, 2023 under India’s presidency. His paradoxical googly, first, not sending the Foreign Minister to the G-20 summit, and, second, visiting India himself within two weeks of the summit, has spurred surprises and raised eyebrows in the diplomatic circles, especially the pro-Japanese eager to further Indo-Japan relations in the period following the assassination of former premier Mr. Shinzo Abe. Mr. Abe’s personal bond with Prime Minister Narendra Modi had helped elevate India’s hopes for Japan’s strong support for India’s new role in the world. Even though Mr. Kishida has been known to have been handpicked by Shinzo Abe as a potent successor to strengthen his legacy, much of the work was undone since the assassination of Abe.

CRITICIZING UNION GOVERNMENT IN FOREIGN SOIL WON’T REALLY HURT MODI

RAHUL GANDHI SHOULD LEARN FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER INDIRA GANDHI
Sushil Kutty - 2023-03-13 10:36
So, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is 'ekakela sab par bhari'! Does that make him ‘God’? The Creator’? Perhaps, the ‘One’ who makes the Sun rise? The Congress says any such thoughts in the Prime Minister’s head should be squelched, cleansed right away, because Modi is behind the “dead democracy” in India! The Congress believes Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a disaster for India and the quicker he departs, the better for India, and Indians.

ONLY THE HAPLESS POOR MIGRANT IS TARGETED BY WILY POLITICIANS EVERYWHERE
K R Sudhaman - 2023-03-13 10:33
Whenever joblessness arises, parochial issues like migrant labour raise their ugly head in different parts of the country. Be it the attack on South Indians in Mumbai in the 1960s by the late Bal Thackeray-led Shiv Sainiks, or on UP bhaias and Biharis in 2000s.
