Human rights collective, People’s Union for Civil Liberties, UP, has been meticulously documenting and putting together reports on the unprecedented theatre of violence against minorities, Dalits and women that is the state of Uttar Pradesh. As India’s most populous and perilous state, led since 2017 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of the BJP, heads to fresh assembly polls, in what seems to be an ugly and vicious electoral campaign by the ruling party and its leaders, the concerned citizens of India have penned a charter of demands seeking justice and accountability from the government. PUCL’s letter on the human rights abuses in UP, under the aegis of Yogi and the array of rightwing leaders fomenting communal tensions in the state, is a hard-hitting wake-up call for everyone anxious about the plight of the marginalized, especially religious minorities, women and Dalits.

The digital rupee will be a digital depiction of an Indian rupee supported by the Reserve Bank of India and will be equivalent in value to the physical rupee.

Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has claimed that the budget has laid foundation for economic growth for the next 25 years which is according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi is Amrit Kal, but people needed immediate help to protect their lives, education of their children, and secured livelihoods for themselves, provisions for which is surprisingly absent from the budget provisions. Whatever there is only cosmetic.

The massive outlay for capital expenditure in the union budget is the boldest and most timely step taken by the government to ensure a speedy economic recovery. It will address the issue of unemployment and loss of individual income which plagued the economy through the two pandemic-hit years. The government must ensure that the proposed projects and the on-going programmes maintain their time and cost schedules. Never before did the country experience such large investment programmes in highly job-oriented projects around a whole lot of fields. The outlay has been jacked up by 35.4 per cent from Rs. 5.54 lakh crore in this fiscal to Rs.7.50 lakh crore in 2022-23. Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the entire government machinery deserve kudos for putting the efforts together to make it happen.
