With the participation of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Yatra got massive character boost, attracting thousands of men, women and even children, as also the grassroots party workers. What was significant was the show of unity by the two Congress factions of the state during the march, and this was made possible by Rahul Gandhi who took former chief minister K Siddharamaiah on one side and D K Shivkumar on the other and compelled them to beat the drum together amidst wide applause from the marchers.

INDIAN ECONOMY BESET WITH DWINDLING GROWTH AND HIGH FOOD INFLATION

MODI GOVT HAS TO DRASTICALLY CHANGE ITS POLICIES TO GENERATE JOBS
Sanjay Roy - 2022-10-07 13:45
The post-pandemic recovery in the world economy that picked up in 2021 is likely to slow down due to expectations of rising inflation, continuing war, restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged real estate slump in China as well as a slower than anticipated consumer spending in the US. While global growth rates are revised downwards from 6.1 per cent in 2021 to 3.2 per cent in 2022 and further down to 2.9 per cent in 2023, inflation expectations are high due to soaring food and energy prices.

NARENDRA MODI GOVT’S DRAFT TELECOM BILL IS A GIFT TO TELECOM MONOPOLIES

CENTRE SEEKS TO EXPAND ITS POLICING POWERS FOR SURVEILLANCE
Prabir Purkayastha - 2022-10-07 13:41
The government has recently released a Draft Indian Telecommunication Bill, 2022, for public comments. At the same time, the union government has withdrawn the Personal Data Protection Bill, which had been in the making for five years. This bill was to give a framework for the citizens' privacy rights, based on the Supreme Court's Puttuswamy Judgement declaring privacy as a fundamental right. However, the citizens' rights still remain undefined. In contrast, the government's powers over what citizens can do, see or hear are vastly increased.

ATROCITIES AGAINST DALITS IN INDIA HAVE RECORDED STEEP RISE UNDER MODI REGIME

STRONG UNITED MOVEMENT IS NEEDED TO RESTORE THE RIGHTS OF THE DOWNTRODDEN
Dr. Soma Marla - 2022-10-07 13:34
We are celebrating 75thyear of our independence and our prime minister proudly claimed that we are now in the cusp of Amrit Kaal. In these times of Amrit Kaal in Lakhimpur Kheri of UP, two Dalit sisters were raped and murdered, their bodies left hanging from a tree. In Rajasthan, a Dalit school student was beaten (who later succumbed to injuries) for touching a water pot meant for Upper caste Hindus. Atrocities continue unabetted. When such stories come in the lime light, they shock the nation, but nothing is done to stop them by the establishment.

EUROZONE COUNTRIES FACING DOUBLE DIGIT INFLATION HITTING WORKING CLASS

PEOPLE’S DISCONTENT RISING, BIG DEMONSTRATIONS TAKING PLACE AGAINST RULING REGIMES
Prabhat Patnaik - 2022-10-07 13:31
For the first time ever, the annual rate of inflation in the Eurozone, measured by the Consumer Price Index, has reached double digits: it exceeded 10 per cent in September 2022, up from 9.1 per cent in August. Energy and food prices of course drove this acceleration in inflation, increasing by 41 per cent and 13 per cent respectively, but they were not the only items witnessing an increase in the inflation rate. Even if we leave out energy and food, the inflation rate in all other commodities taken together increased from 5.5 per cent in August to 6.1 per cent in September. Two-thirds of the increase in the inflation rate between August and September was thus on account of commodities other than energy and food. The narrative that the acceleration of inflation is entirely because of the energy and food shortage caused by the Ukraine war is thus not correct.
