INDIA-CHINA TROOPS DISENGAGEMENT IN LADAKH IS A SORT OF ARMISTICE

NEW DELHI HASTO BE EVER VIGILANT ABOUT BEIJING’S FUTURE MOVES
Barun Das Gupta - 2021-02-24 11:20
The beginning of the disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh has given a tremendous boost to our amour propre. The feeling is that “we have not yielded to them, we have stood up to them. They are retreating now.” Given China’s overall policy and hostile attitude to India, one is tempted to recall what Marshal Foch said when the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, formally ending the First World War. The French General said: “This is not Peace. It is an Armistice for twenty years.” He was uncannily prescient. Exactly twenty years later, in 1939, the Second World War began.

PROMOTION OF CORONIL BY THE HEALTH MINISTER UNFORTUNATE

HEALTHCARE CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO BE PUSHED TO MEDIEVAL TIMES
Dr. Arun Mitra - 2021-02-24 11:05
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has raised very pertinent objections to the promotion of CORONIL by the Health Minister on the grounds of science as well as medical ethics. The Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan is an ENT Surgeon trained in modern medicine. It would be naïve to believe that he is unaware of the number of and types of clinical trials any new medicine/ vaccine has to pass through before being put to use.

CORPORATE DISTRESS SHOULD BE DEALT WITH RIGHT EARNEST

GOVERNMENT MUST SHARE RISKS AND FINANCES WITH MSMEs
Gyan Pathak - 2021-02-24 11:02
The world is undergoing an unprecedented corporate distress induced by outbreak by COVID-19. Economy of every country has suffered unparalleled setback, with great loss of job and the very means of survival. Governments world over are trying their best to set their economies back on growth track but it could be done only when they can devote resources to corporate relief, repair, and recovery. Developed countries have enough resources to do that, but the developing countries, such as India, will have very few resources and a commensurately large repair job on their hands because they have not been able to spend on relief.

TIME TO DO AWAY WITH DRACONIAN PROVISIONS OF PRESENT SEDITION LAW IN INDIA

DELHI COURT ORDER ON DISHA RAVI BAIL HAS PUT THE ISSUE IN PROPER PERSPECTIVE
Nitya Chakraborty - 2021-02-24 09:55
The Delhi Court order on the bail granted to the climate activist Disha Ravi issued on February 23 has imparted a new dimension to the debate whether the present sedition law provisions are too draconian giving enough leeway to the ruling dispensation to charge citizens for sedition for expressing views contrary to the government’s policies. The order of the additional judge Dharmendar Rana is an objective observation on the present state of affairs relating to democratic dissent in the country when the police can arrest anybody on sedition charges without having the required incriminating documents.
