AMERICANS CAN’T AFFORD REPUBLICANS’ STIMULUS SABOTAGE

PANDEMIC DISSTRESSED PEOPLE WANT ITS IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION
Jesse Jackson - 2021-02-03 10:54
In his first ten days in office, Joe Biden launched an intense effort to address the “cascading crises” that America faces. In addition to issuing executive orders to reverse several of Trump’s most poisonous acts—ending federal contracting with private prisons, reviving enforcement of discrimination laws, ending the Muslim ban, re-entering the Paris Climate Accord, and much more—Biden has put forth a bold rescue plan to deal with the human and economic costs of the pandemic. He has declared climate change an existential threat and a national security priority and has promised a renewed effort to address systemic racism and other forms of discrimination.

On February 1, many notable Twitter accounts of journalists and news media portals displayed the message, “Account withheld” citing the portal’s response to an unknown “legal demand”. Ross Barkan - 2021-02-03 10:46
Reading dispatches from the mainstream news organizations of America will tell you that we as a nation have just undergone a radical shift. Donald Trump, the unhinged terror, is no more, and Joe Biden has returned to restore decency and normalcy to the Oval Office. Like a liberated people, we have freed ourselves of a mad tyrant who threatened to ruin our long-running democratic experiment.

BUDGET GIVES NO PUSH TOWARDS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE

REDUCTION IN SPENDING ON NUTRITION IS WORRYING FOR CHILDREN
Dr Arun Mitra - 2021-02-03 10:43
The COVID Pandemic has exposed inequities in healthcare. Failure of public healthcare system to care for the poor and middle income sections of society was clearly evident. Economically well off sections could get treatment from private sector which minted money in this crisis. The corporate hospitals cared a hoot about government’s regulations. It was therefore needed that budget on health should have given direction towards ensuring comprehensive universal healthcare.

UNION BUDGET PROVISIONS FOR MIGRANT WORKERS ARE COSMETIC

WORKING CLASSES WILL CONTINUE TO SUFFER FOUR LABOUR LAWS
Gyan Pathak - 2021-02-03 10:40
Union Budget 2021-22 has several provisions for migrant workers in India. Such provisions were desired and expected, but they are too little to enthuse them to return to their working places that they had left in their plight during the outbreak of the pandemic. Most of the announcements are cosmetic in nature beautifying the document and the face of the government, but not the cruelty lying thereunder against the working class.

MODI FIDDLES AS FARMERS ARE SERVED A BED OF NAILS

CONCERTINA WIRES AT DELHI BORDERS NOW SYMBOLISE CENTRE
Sushil Kutty - 2021-02-03 10:37
The lethally sharpened wooden stakes jutting out of the horrendously nail-studded blacktops are a throwback to Medieval Delhi. The rolls of concertina laid across the breadth of the highways are meant to keep the Jat farmer out of Delhi. They say if anybody can beat the stubborn out of determination, it is the Jat. And the Jat farmers of Western Uttar Pradesh are as bullheaded as are the Jat farmers of Haryana.

INDIAN COURTS NEED TO BE GENDER SENSITISED IN ITS APPROACH

JUDGES HAVE TO BE TRAINED TO MEET NEW REQUIREMENTS
Harsh Mahaseth and Aditi Mishra - 2021-02-02 09:59
Women in India have been discriminated against from birth. They are compelled to face many pressures and constraints daily to ensure personal growth, freedom and equality, to live a better and dignified life and help towards an equitable and safe society. Gender sensitisation can help dissipate many of the stereotypes. The patriarchal mindset prevalent in Indian culture is the root cause of sex discrimination. With urbanisation and education, this is now changing. However, there is still a long way to go. Owing to social conditioning and the incidence of strict gender equations, the unequal balance continues.

L S Herdenia - 2021-02-02 09:55

Arun Srivastava - 2021-02-02 09:52
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is getting ready to play the victim card. Ably supported by his intellectual and journalist friends he is planning to project himself before the people of Bihar as a person who has been derided and exploited by the BJP. His friends have already launched the tirade against the BJP of not providing him enough space to function effectively for protecting and promoting the interest of the poor and dalit of the state.
