PANDEMIC FURTHER WORSENS LIVING CONDITIONS IN URBAN INDIA

POOR AND THE UNORGANISED WORKERS ARE MOSTLY THE VICTIMS
Tikender Singh Panwar - 2021-08-02 11:14
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the hollowness of the urban development trajectory in India. Since the last few decades, especially after the economic reforms in the 1990s, the city development models have been for-profit maximisation through privatisation of utilities, monetisation of land and corporatisation for capital intensive technologies. In this process, the organised strength of the working class has been weakened and more informalisation has crept in.

ABVP MEMBERS DISRUPT WEBINAR ON ACHIEVEMENT OF SCIENTIFIC TEMPER

MADHYA PRADESH ADMINISTRATION GAVE SUPPORT TO ATTACKS ON SCHOLARS
L S Herdenia - 2021-08-02 11:09
BHOPAL: July 30, 2021 will be recorded as a day of shame in the history of Dr. Gaur Central University of Madhya Pradesh. On this day the RSS affiliated Vidhyarthi Parishad directed the University to remove the names of two eminent scholars from the list of speakers who were to participate in a Webinar organised by the University. The ABVP claimed that Dr. Gauhar Raza and Dr. Apoorvanand are "enemies of the nation" and therefore should not be allowed to speak in the Webinar. It may be mentioned here that Raza is a well-known scientist and Dr. Apoorvanand teaches in Delhi University and ranks as a great scholar. Besides both are committed to secular values as enshrined in the Constitution.

SHAH GAGA OVER YOGI ADITYANATH’S BROKEN LAW & ORDER RECORD

AS UTTAR PRADESH ASSEMBLY POLL NEARS, IMAGE MAKEOVER BID ROLLS ON
Sushil Kutty - 2021-08-02 11:05
There’s the flip side to the coin and the one tossed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s law & order record is a flipping miracle. Shah says Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi topped in maintenance of law & order, i.e., give or take a few rapes, and a couple of encounter killings gone wrong every couple weeks in this or that part of the sprawling state with more people crowding its geography than in any of the other states.

BJP POLICIES HAVE LOWERED THE RANKING OF INDIA AS A MULTI-RELIGIOUS NATION
Amulya Ganguli - 2021-08-02 11:02
By now, New Delhi’s mandarins must have prepared a standard list of denials of accusations by foreigners about the increasingly frayed nature of Indian democracy.

UNORGANISED WORKERS ARE BEING SUCKED BY UNCERTAIN LABOUR MARKET

FEW JOBS AVAILABLE, NO MONEY IN HAND, NOT COVERED UNDER SOCIAL SECURITY
Gyan Pathak - 2021-08-02 09:58
Millions of unorganized labours are being sucked by the quicksand created in the uncertain labour market in India. Only few jobs are available that makes the market exploitative, losing the means of survival due to no money in hand, and losing hope fast because they are not covered under any social security cover. Many have already been sucked, many have just fallen into the quicksand, and many are moving towards it. They need to be rescued.

INDIAN SAILORS ‘BANNED’ TO ENTER CHINA PORTS

LITTLE REACTION FROM INDIAN GOVERNMENT
Nantoo Banerjee - 2021-08-02 09:49
It is shocking to note that the Government of India, one of the world’s major suppliers of seafarers, is silent on a very serious complaint by the All India Seafarer and General Workers’ Union that China is not allowing ships with Indian crew to enter its water. The union has officially made a complaint to the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, apart from the directorate general of shipping, saying that China has imposed an unofficial ban on Indian sailors and not allowing ships with Indian crew to enter its ports.
