Acid

Acid is a chemical substance, typically a liquid that is corrosive and sour in taste. However, it is also found in solid form from which aqueous solution are made. Acids in liquid form are able to dissolve metals, neutralize alkalis and turn litmus red.

Chemistry defines it as a molecule or other entity that, during reactions, donates protons and accept electrons from other substances. Acids release hydrogen ions H+ when dissolved in water. Solutions having pH value less than 7 are acidic. Lesser the value of pH stronger the acid, is the rule. Organic acids contain the carboxyl group -COOH.
