Adumbla

Adumbla, also Auðumbla, is the name of a cow, in old Norse mythology, that grazes on hoar-frost, "licking the rime from the rocks - a Hindu cow transported north," surmises Carlyle. She was the primeval cow. According to the story the primordial frost jötunn Ymir was fed upon her milk. For three days she licked away the salty rime rocks and revealed Búri, the grandfather of the gods and brothers Odin, Vili and Vé.
