Aeschines

Aeschines (389-314 B.C.) was a celebrated Athenian orator and statesman. He was a rival of Demosthenes, that is why, he opposed Demosthenes' efforts to unite Greek city-states against Macedon. However, Demosthenes in the end prevailed over him by persuading the citizens to believe he was betraying them to Philip of Macedon. Such a humiliation compelled him to leave Athen. He finally left Athens and settled in Rhodes, where he founded a school as a rhetorician.
