Alligator

Alligator is a fresh-water crocodile native to Americas and China. Its skin or the materials resembling it is also called alligator.

It is a large semiaquatic reptile similar to a crocodile. North American alligators are found in large numbers in the Mississippi and the lakes and rivers of Louisiana and Carolina. It has broader and shorter head. It subsists on fish, and though timid, is dangerous when attacked. It is slow in turning, however, and its attacks can be easily evaded.

The genus of this species in Alligator. It belongs to Alligatoridae family and order Crocodylia.

The American alligator is called A. mississippiensis and the Chinese alligator is called A. sinensis.
