Ammon

Ammon is the Greek name for an Egyptian deity Amen, who is represented with the head of a ram, who had a temple at Thebes and in the Lybian Desert. He was much resorted to as an oracle of fate. He is identified in Greece with Zeus, and in Rome with Jupiter.

There is a temple of Jupiter Ammon at Siwa in Egypt. The word ammonia is derived from the Greek word ammoniakos which means 'of Ammon', which was originally used as a name for the salt and gum obtained near the temple.
