Araria District

Araria is a district in the State of Bihar in India. The district is bordered in the north by Nepal, in the east by Kishanganj district, and in the west by Supaul district, and in the south by Purnia and Madhepura districts of Bihar. Jogbani is the last point of Araria and after that "Virat Nagar" district of Nepal starts.

The district came into existence by division of Purnia district on Makar-Sankranti day of 1990. Headquarters of this deistrict is at Araria. Area of this district is 2717.12 sq km. Population of this district as per census 2011 was 2,811,559 (Rural 2,642,792 and Urban 168,777).

There are two subdivisions - Araria and Forbisganj, 9 community development blocks - Araria, Raniganj, Bharganwan, Kursakata, Sikti, Narpatganj, Farbisganj, Palasi and Jokihat, 218 Panchayats and 751 revenue villages in the district.

Major crops of this districts are Paddy, Maize and Jute. Jute Mills are the only industry here.

Rivers of this district are Kosi, Suwara, Kali and Koli.
