Ascension Island
Ascension Island is a small island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is a bare volcanic island in the Atlantic, rising to nearly 3000 ft., belonging to Britain, 500 m. NW. of St. Helena, and 900 m. from the coast of Africa. It was once an important coaling and victualling station for the navy. It was also an important air station. It is governed as part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.Nearby pages
