Astatic

Astatic is a state of being unstable, ie not keeping a steady position or direction. As a term in magnetism in physics, it denotes a device that is used to minimize the effect of the earth's magnetic field. It consisting of magnets suspended in a uniform magnetic field on single wire or thread in such a manner that no torque is left.
