Augustine de Iturbide

Augustine de Iturbide (1783-1824) was a Mexican general, emancipated Mexico from the yoke of Spain. He seized the crown and was proclaimed emperor in 1822. However, he was obliged to abdicate next year and leave the country. On returning, was immediately arrested, and shot.
