Axis deer

Axis deer, also axis as mentioned by the Roman natural historian Pliny, is a deer native to India and Sri Lanka. It has a yellowish-brown coat with white spots. Lyre-shaped antlers are grown on an adult axis. Its zoological name is Cervus axis. It belongs to the family Cervidae.
