Beachy Head

Beachy Head is a chalk cliff in Sussex, England, 575 ft. high, projecting into the English Channel. It derives its name from the French term 'beau chef' , literally beautiful headland, and has nothing to do with 'beach'. It served as landmark of sailors, though it is also known for some battles, one of them was a naval engagement in 1690 between the allied English and Dutch fleets and those of France, in which the latter were successful, and also some other battles.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, it was the third most common suicide spot in the world in 2010, after the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Aokigahara Woods in Japan.
