Belshazzar
Belshazzar (c. 580 BC - c. 539 BC) was the last Chaldean king of Babylon, slain, according to the Scripture account, at the capture of the city by Cyrus, the king of Persia, in 539 B.C. He was slain after Babylon was captured by Persian general Gobyras without resistance on October 12, 539, and probably before the Persian king Cyrus II entered the city 17 days later.Belshazzar was son of Nebuchadnezzar II. It is written in the book of Daniel in the Bible that his doom was foretold by writing that appeared on the palace walls at a great banquet. He was killed in the sacking of the city.
