Bering Strait
Bering Strait is a strait of the Pacific separating the eastern tip of Siberia in Russia and Alaska, a state in the United States in the North America, slightly south of the Arctic Circle at about 65° 40' N latitude. It links the Arctic Ocean with the Bering Sea, about 53 miles (85 km) wide at its narrowest point. It is name after the Danish explorer Vitus Bering (1681 — 1741), who was in the service of the Russian Empire.According to a scientific assessment, the Bering land bridge was formed as a result of a drop in sea levels during the Ice Age which connected the two continents Asia and North America. Migration of animals and dispersal of plants in both directions were then become possible through this land bridge.
